If you visit Córdoba, the two monuments you cannot miss are the Mosque-Cathedral and the Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs, as they are the two most important monuments in Córdoba. Let’s start with the richness in terms of materials, location and architecture of the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, a monument spanning more than twenty thousand square metres that welcomes thousands of visitors each year in Córdoba. The Alcázar of Córdoba is the greatest representation of the Christian period in the city; its origins date back to 1328 and it was commissioned by King Alfonso XI. It has extensive gardens to visit, where we will find numerous sculptures of the monarchs who have passed through the Alcázar.

Tour guides for the Mosque and the gardens of the Alcázar

If you want to understand the structure, history and features of these monuments, we recommend taking our Monumental tour — the Guided Tour of the Mosque-Cathedral and Alcázar — on which you can enjoy a full description of the two main monuments.

The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba is a very complex monument that spans several civilisations and cultures. On our tour of the Mosque you will be able to see and understand the importance of each expansion over the years, as well as the transformation from a Muslim place of worship to a Catholic one.

After visiting the Mosque, we will tour the Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs, where we will begin by explaining the structure of the fortress as well as the great number of historical events that have taken place within these walls.

Discover our route to explore the Cathedral and the Alcázar of Córdoba

On the visit to the Mosque and the Alcázar, discover the contrast of two cultures coexisting in the same place: Christian and Islamic culture merged in this wonderful building.

The Cathedral of Córdoba is located in the central part and its construction dates back to the 16th century. The mix of Renaissance domes with Gothic vaults, along with a truly impressive choir stall, is an essential part of the visit.

The standout feature of the Alcázar is its gardens, divided into three levels: upper, middle and lower garden. Blooming with a great variety of native species, it is a paradise for the senses. On the guided tour of the Alcázar we can also enjoy the mosaic hall, where we will see Roman-era mosaics found beneath the floor of the Plaza de la Corredera in 1959.
